This is a great start to any day, you can soak the quinoa overnight to speed up the process. If you are purchasing Aussie grown quinoa you will really need to rinse it well before proceeding. Rinse in the simmering basket with running water until there is no foam being generated. This comes from something naturally occuring on the outside of the quinoa seed called saponin. There is nothing toxic about saponin (in such small amounts) but it is very bitter and unpleasant tasting. So best rinsed off. When you purchase a non Aussie quinoa, the saponin is probably already removed for packaging and shipping reasons. But rinsing won't hurt!
Quinoa is protein packed, gluten free and very filling. Add all the toppings you wish to make it go that bit further, and really, you are sending the little darlings off to school with a breakfast that will keep them focused all day long. We also love our Almond Milk and Oat Milk recipes to go with this and keep it completely plant based if you wish.
