Hot Cross Bun Recipes for Easter and beyond.

Hot Cross Bun Recipes for Easter and beyond.

"Hot cross buns, Hot cross buns, One a penny, two a penny, Hot cross buns! If you have no daughters, Give them to your sons, One a penny, two a penny, Hot cross buns!"

Hot Cross Buns have a long history, dating back to the 12th century in England. Legend says they were first baked by a monk at St. Albans Abbey and the cross symbolized the crucifixion of Christ. Originally made for Lent, they became associated with Good Friday and were believed to bring blessings and protection.

By the 18th century, they were popular street food, and the rhyme "Hot cross buns! Hot cross buns!" became widely known. Over time, the buns evolved, often filled with currants, raisins, or other dried fruits.

Today, hot cross buns are enjoyed around the world, especially during Easter, with modern variations including chocolate and citrus versions. Though their religious symbolism remains, they are now a beloved seasonal treat.
