Snowy Road
When the rocky road is made out of white chocolate then it becomes snowy road Isn't it cute? We loved this It is naughty but nice and perfect gifting.
Rocky road has a deliciously layered origin that’s as sweet as the treat itself! It likely originated in the U.S. during the Great Depression in the 1930s, though there’s also a claim that it was first created in Australia in 1853. Here’s a look at both stories:
1. American Origin Story
In the U.S., rocky road as we know it—chocolate mixed with marshmallows and nuts—was popularised by William Dreyer, co-founder of Dreyer’s Ice Cream. Dreyer and his business partner Joseph Edy experimented with adding cut-up marshmallows and nuts to their chocolate ice cream in the 1920s or 1930s. The combination became an instant hit. Dreyer is said to have used his wife’s sewing scissors to snip the marshmallows, creating a unique mix of chewy, crunchy, and creamy textures. The name "rocky road" was chosen to represent the “rocky” economic times of the Great Depression, bringing a little joy to a difficult period.
2. Australian Origin Claim
An alternate origin story places rocky road in Australia in 1853. In this version, it was originally created as a way to salvage candy that had been spoiled by the long journey from Europe to Australia. Confectioners would mix in local nuts, chocolate, and sometimes Turkish delight to cover up the taste of the spoiled candy and sell it to gold miners. This mishmash of ingredients resulted in a rough, “rocky” texture that inspired the name.
Both versions celebrate the candy as a combination of texture and flavors, made to brighten the day with its chewy, crunchy, and smooth mix. Today, rocky road has taken on countless variations worldwide, with added ingredients like dried fruits, coconut, or honeycomb, making it a truly adaptable treat!
