ThermoMite or Thermomix Vegemite

Makes approx 250g
by Tenina Holder

If Promite and Vegemite had a love child, this version would be it. Slightly sweet, which is more like promite. Salty from the miso and tamari...I have to say, not a lot to hate about this on hot buttered toast, or in Cheesymite scrolls or as an addition to a great stew. I got you covered!!

This originally appeared in the 2017 Pimp My Pantry calender...which is still available for a fraction of the original cost!!

Iconically Australian I think...who else would slather something that tastes similar to crushed vitamin b pills with the texture of vaseline all over toast? (DId that sell it to you or what???) Enjoy!

Need

  • 100 Gram Chinese black vinegar
  • 50 Gram Coconut - Sugar BUY
  • 50 Gram black sesame tahini
  • 20 Gram miso paste
  • 50 Gram tamari sauce or coconut aminos
  • 2 Teaspoon garlic powder

Do

1

Place vinegar and sugar into Thermomix bowl and caramelize 10 min/Varoma/speed 2/MC off.

2

Add all remaining ingredients and blend 1 min/speed 10. Scrape down mixture from lid and sides of bowl and blend 20 sec/speed 6.

3

Scrape into a sterlised jar and keep sealed in the fridge between uses.

4

Just like vegemite, you need to use this sparingly as it is very strong in flavour.

More

DO not attempt to replace the black sesame seeds with Nigella seeds, which are often taken to be the same. They are not. If you cannot source the black sesame seeds, you can just use toasted white sesame seeds or find some black tahini and use the same amount in place of the toasted seeds.
