Dangerously rich, impossibly creamy, and loaded with chocolate from the very first sip to the last, this is hot chocolate with absolutely no apologies

This is not your average sachet-and-hot-water situation. Death by Hot Chocolate is exactly what it sounds like: a full-throttle, unapologetically indulgent, life affirming mug of pure chocolate obsession, built in layers for maximum depth and richness. We're talking real melted dark chocolate, velvety hot milk, pure vanilla, and enough toppings to make it a dessert in its own right.

It's the kind of drink you make on a cold, grey afternoon when nothing else will do, when only something truly excessive and deeply chocolatey will cut through the gloom. Thick, warming, and completely over the top in the best possible way, this recipe earns its dramatic name with every sip.

Serving suggestions:

In an oversized mug piled high with freshly whipped cream and a dusting of dark cocoa

As a dessert drink after a dinner party, served with a small square of good chocolate on the side

Topped with toasted marshmallow and a drizzle of salted caramel for a campfire-style treat

Spiked with Baileys, Kahlúa, or dark rum for a grown-up Easter indulgence

Alongside warm brownies or chocolate lava cake for a full chocolate overload experience

Served in a glass mug to show off the layers, garnished with chocolate shavings and a cinnamon stick

As a cosy movie-night drink with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting slowly on top
